Coastal Salalah — Al Haffa, Al Dahariz, Salalah Beach

Best for: the “real Dhofar” experience and multi-family trips for 6+ people. The trade-off is that you will need a car, and a car is not optional.
Mountain edge — Jabal Samhan direction, Tawi Atair, Qairoon Hairiti
You won’t find as many chalets, but the ones you do find here will be unforgettable. Waking up above the cloud line with a view of the fog and dead silence is where you need to be if you want to escape the noise of everyday life.
Best for: a family with teenagers who need to reset, honeymoons, and writers. The trade-off here is a 40+ minute drive to the beach and fewer restaurants.
City center — near Salalah Gardens, Al Saada, Al Wadi
This area will not show you the traditional views of Salalah, but is more practical for a business and pleasure trip of shorter duration. You will be close to restaurants, the airport, supermarkets and pharmacies. The inventory of chalets here is less, but is usually a better price.

Step 2: Build your amenities checklist — the one that actually matters
