Real talk: Salalah isn’t really a hotel city. True, there are some resorts along Al Hafa and the corniche. And yes, some are beautiful resorts. But after spending some time here during Khareef, when the mist settles over Wadi Darbat, the rain drizzles in Ittin, and the kids run barefoot in the grass at Ayn Razat, you start to realize something else. The best memories don’t happen in the hotel lobby.
They happen, for example, on a private terrace, at 6:00 AM, with a fog rolling in from the Arabian Sea, and no strangers around. This is the case a private chalet makes. And in our experience, one private chalet is all it takes to stop families from returning to a standard hotel room.

Most Masarrah listings come with a full living room, and a dining room with enough space for ten or more people. Add in an outdoor area, and you can actually breathe. If you have ever traveled and had to keep your children quiet in a hotel hallway for the sake of a sleeping neighbor, you know the importance of space.
3. Private, Temperature-Controlled Pools (Yes, Really)
Salalah is definitely one of a kind. The sea can get a little choppy and the outdoor air becomes cool and misty (perfect for a cozy walk but not for kids to swim) during Khareef. In the shoulder months, the sun can be quite strong. Because of this, many chalets here have heated, temperature-controlled private pools.
While it may be a small detail, you don’t truly understand how awesome it is until you get to use one. Shared hotel pools can’t compete with the luxury of having a private, heated, temperature-controlled pool. 4. An Actual Kitchen
Next Level Salalah Food! When staying in a hotel, your only option to eat is room service or going out. In a chalet, you get your very own kitchen plus a BBQ! Just picture how awesome it would be to have a family grill on the terrace while it cools off and thickens with mist from Dhofar. That definitely beats staying in a 24-square-meter hotel room.
5. Genuine Local Experience
Every hotel chain has buildings that look and feel the same. Chalets and farmhouses in Salalah do not exhibit the same characteristics. They have date and coconut palms growing next to them and neighbor’s that wave as your drive by. Is a Salalah chalet actually the best option?
